2011: Debut - Boyfriend

The first glimpse of Boyfriend began with the unveiling of No Min Woo, the youngest member, through K.Will's music video "가슴이 뛴다(My Heart Beating)" together with the famous singers, IU and MBLAQ's Lee Joon. The video was released on March 10, 2011 and gained a lot of interest harboring almost a million views. Then on March 23, Starship revealed a photo of the identical twin brothers, Jo Young Min and Jo Kwang Min in the midst of slowly revealing their upcoming band. In the past, the group had played roles as K. Will's back up dancers in the show 'Quiz That Changes the World' last January.^[3]

The group was featured on M! Pick which revealed the course of their debut.^[4] They showed interesting takes on the new boyband such as the members' choreography practice, their parody of the famous k-drama Coffee Prince and their successful results on the given missions.

"Let's Get it Started" the MV teaser for their first album was released on May 19, 2011. The one-minute long video, which highlighted the boys' extraordinary dancing's abilities, has over 600,000 views at the moment. Five days later, on May 26, 2011, Starship released the full music video entitled "Boyfriend (보이프렌드)". Later that day, they had their debut on KBS' 'Music Bank'.^[5] With their bright outfits and charming choreography, the boys turned heads and gathered quite the attention of the fans earning them immense popularity in their promotions. A week later, they released a practice video which received over half a million views.^[6]

In Mid-July, Boyfriend surprised many with their new choreography, trading in their aegyo dance for a more manly concept, which they had perfected in the course of 2 days.^[7] Their leader, Kim Dong Hyun, explained, “We practiced really hard for two days. We didn’t pull all-nighters in order to keep up our stamina, but we rehearsed nearly all day long. You’ll be able to see a choreography that’s more powerful and masculine, so we hope you’ll look forward to us.” True enough, their performance was perfect with watertight moves.

On July 28, the band's follow-up song "You & I" was featured on M! Countdown after finishing the promotions for their first song "Boyfriend". This song has received the best reactions from not only fans, but also music critics.^[8] They revealed a tougher side to their group and worked with a more masculine concept for this song, which was produced by Brave Brothers as well.
